I’ve never written anything like this before. Honestly, I don’t know exactly what it is that I am trying to convey, but I know something about this is important. Maybe by the end I’ll know what it is.

Before I get into it, I should provide the setting. At this point in my sub-life, I was in my third year at closed-custody prison facility in the northwestern corner of Washington state. The place is not very big as prisons go, housing no more that 900 inmates.
